Individual Therapy

Start here when symptoms, old patterns, trauma, anxiety, or burnout are narrowing your life.

OCD and ERPERP Therapy for OCD and Intrusive ThoughtsStructured exposure and response prevention for obsessive-compulsive patterns, intrusive thoughts, avoidance, reassurance-seeking, and compulsions.

OCD can look like obvious rituals, but it can also show up as mental checking, reassurance-seeking, avoidance, rumination, repeated confession, relationship doubt, harm fears, contamination fears, scrupulosity, or a constant need to feel certain. Many high-functioning clients are able to keep life moving while privately spending enormous energy managing thoughts and preventing feared outcomes.

Exposure and Response Prevention is the central evidence-based treatment for OCD. The work involves gradually approaching feared thoughts, sensations, situations, or uncertainty while practicing new responses that do not strengthen the compulsion cycle. Treatment is structured, collaborative, and paced carefully enough to be challenging without becoming chaotic.

Jenny may integrate IFS-informed ERP when protective parts of the system are highly active. This can help clients understand why compulsions feel so urgent while still building the behavioral flexibility needed for meaningful change. Family guidance may also be included when accommodation, reassurance, or conflict around symptoms is affecting progress.

This service may be a fit if intrusive thoughts, compulsions, avoidance, or certainty-seeking are narrowing your life. In-home or off-site ERP may be considered when clinically appropriate and available, especially when symptoms need support in the settings where they actually occur.

Internal Family SystemsIFS Therapy and Parts WorkDepth-focused parts work for self-criticism, inner conflict, trauma patterns, anxiety, perfectionism, and change that needs more than insight alone.

Internal Family Systems therapy helps clients understand the different parts of their inner world, including protective parts that work hard to manage pain, prevent rejection, avoid overwhelm, or keep life appearing functional. These patterns often make sense historically, even when they now create anxiety, self-criticism, avoidance, perfectionism, or relationship strain.

IFS is especially useful for clients who can explain their patterns intellectually but still feel pulled into old reactions. The work is not about forcing a part of you to disappear. It is about understanding the protective logic underneath symptoms, building more internal space, and relating to difficult emotions with more steadiness and choice.

Jenny brings Level 2 IFS training and integrates parts work with other evidence-based approaches when clinically useful. IFS may support trauma recovery, OCD treatment, anxiety, life transitions, identity work, attachment wounds, and the experience of being high-functioning on the outside while carrying intensity underneath.

This service may be a fit if you are looking for therapy that is emotionally attuned, direct, and deeper than coping skills alone. The pace is collaborative, but the work still stays purposeful: we connect insight to actual shifts in how you respond to yourself, your relationships, and your life.

Trauma and PTSDTrauma and PTSD TherapyAdvanced trauma treatment for complex trauma, single-incident trauma, PTSD, and nervous-system survival responses.

Trauma can continue shaping daily life long after the original experience is over. It may show up as hypervigilance, shutdown, intrusive memories, avoidance, emotional numbness, shame, body-based fear, relationship difficulty, or a sense that your nervous system reacts faster than your thinking mind can respond.

Trauma therapy at JL Psychotherapy is tailored to your history, current capacity, and goals. The work may focus on stabilizing symptoms, reducing avoidance, processing traumatic memories, understanding protective patterns, and building enough internal safety to move toward the life you want now.

Treatment may draw from EMDR, Deep Brain Reorienting, IFS, Prolonged Exposure, ACT, CBT, or DBT. These modalities are not used as a generic menu. They are selected based on the kind of trauma, your current nervous-system capacity, prior treatment experiences, and what is most likely to support meaningful progress.

This service may be a fit for complex trauma, single-incident trauma, PTSD, attachment wounds, service-related trauma, medical trauma, or long-standing survival responses. The work is structured and careful, but it does not avoid depth when depth is what is needed.

Anxiety and BurnoutAnxiety, Burnout, and High-Functioning StressFocused care for anxiety, perfectionism, professional burnout, chronic stress, and emotional overextension.

Anxiety and burnout often hide behind competence. You may be meeting responsibilities, caring for other people, performing well, or appearing steady while internally feeling overloaded, irritable, exhausted, avoidant, or unable to turn your mind off. The goal is not simply to manage symptoms better so you can keep over-functioning.

Therapy focuses on the deeper patterns beneath urgency, over-responsibility, avoidance, people-pleasing, perfectionism, and self-pressure. We look at what anxiety is protecting, what burnout is signaling, and what would need to change for your life to become more sustainable.

Care may integrate ACT, CBT, DBT, IFS, values clarification, emotional regulation skills, and practical behavior change. Skills matter, but they are connected to the larger work of building a life with more choice, boundaries, honesty, and alignment.

This service may be a fit if stress has become your normal baseline, if you are tired of being the reliable one, or if previous strategies helped temporarily but did not reach the patterns underneath. Treatment is practical and direct while still leaving room for the complexity of who you are.
